Determine whether an IP is a native Hong Kong IP, cross-verification can be done across multiple dimensions: Step one: Use IP attribution queries (such as whois, bgp.he.net, or RIPEstat) to view registration information; Step two: Use ASN information to determine if it is a Hong Kong ISP; The third step is to support validation through delays and geographic libraries (such as MaxMind GeoIP). A single method may have errors; it is recommended to combine ASN tracing and geographic database results.
Common commands: Windows uses ping -n 4 IP; Linux/macOS uses ping -c 4 IP. Focus on three data points: latency, packet loss, and jitter.
General judgment: Delay <50ms is normal for Hong Kong nodes; 50–150ms depends on the line of sight; >150ms may not be native or may be bypassed. If packet loss >1–2%, further investigation is needed to check for ICMP limitations or actual packet loss.
Common commands: Linux/macOS uses traceroute -n IP or traceroute -T/ -I (TCP/ICMP); Windows uses tracert IP. It is recommended to use the -n parameter to avoid DNS reverse lookup delays.

Each hop displays IP and delays three samplings. If a jump times out (*) but the subsequent jump resumes, ICMP echo is usually disabled but the link is reachable; If jump latency surges or packet loss continues to rise, it usually indicates the problem lies in that segment of the network or upstream ISP.
Combined with MTR or TCPTeRoute, continuous observation facilitates the detection of intermittent packet loss and routing fluctuations.
First, use whois or Team Cymru's IP-to-ASN services to query the corresponding ASN (for example: whois -h whois.cymru.com " -v IP" or to https://bgp.he.net/). After obtaining the ASN, check its description, registration country, and announcement prefix to determine whether it is a Hong Kong ISP or an export forwarded from overseas through Hong Kong.
If the ASN is shown as located in Hong Kong and registered as a Hong Kong carrier, the IP is supported as native; If the ASN is a foreign or other country but has a node in Hong Kong, further judgment must be made using Traceroute and GeoIP.
Notes: 1) ICMP filtering will affect Ping/Traceroute results, so TCP/UDP detection must be attempted. 2) Geographic databases are not absolutely accurate; most are based on registered information. 3) Routing detours may cause abnormal latency; it is recommended to measure at multiple points (multiple regions).
Practical skills: Use multiple tools (ping, traceroute, mtr, whois, bgp.he.net, RIPEstat, MaxMind) for cross-validation; Compare results across different time periods and different export IPs; Records the time, delay, and packet loss of each test to facilitate the identification of instantaneous and long-term issues.
